Ten research associates work at the Laboratory of Mechanical Process Engineering, Technische Universität Dortmund, which is headed by Prof. Dr. techn. Peter Walzel since 1999. They are active in different basic research fields, optimisation and development of new processes and systems in the area of spray and dispersion processes, granular media, process intensification, dust removal and particle separation. The field of work of the researchers involves the realisation and evaluation of experiments and measurements in the laboratory as well as theoretical studies using computer simulations.
In the area of atomization technology, the research focuses on liquid lamellas formation using hollow cone nozzles (HCN) and the production of narrowly distributed drops using rotational atomizers. In the area of granular media, the research group deals with mixing behaviour in continuous operating drums. The process intensification deals with the improvement of heat and mass transport by vibration, and the research on dust removal and particle separation at the laboratory involves dust separation using electric filters, flue gas cleaning from steel converters and particle separation in laminar flows.
